Hi there. Congratulations to your great new album. Please describe the reactions to the CD so far.
So far so good, we have been pleasantly surprised! I am glad that many reviewers remark about the positive vibe on the album.
Some of our readers may never have heard about you. Please give us a short briefing in the band's biography and the milestones of your career up to now!
Well, we were founded in 2002, and we started touring a good bit regionally around the east coast and Midwest of the US. We have played many of the preeminent American doom and stoner fests. We have two full lengths albums out.
Let's talk about your new CD. Who is the Man Of Two Visions, and what can you tell us about him?
The man of two visions is the human being who lives simultaneously in the material world and the spiritual world. Life is about finding a balance and mainly seeking the spiritual despite the trappings of materialism. That is a big theme on this album.
My favorite is "Apocalypse Unsealed". Can you tell us something about this song and it's history?
Apocalypse Unsealed is referring the teachings of Baha'u'llah, who many people believe is the Return of Christ. It is about a new age that is stirring in the world and the coming 'Kingdom of God on Earth' as foretold in the Bible and other sacred scriptures from all over the world.
Is there a favorite song of yours from the album? If so: Which one and why? If not: Which one gets the most attention in Live concerts?
False Dreams is my favorite because I think the riffs and solos are very powerful and inspiring, but also because the lyrics are some of my favorite that I have written. It is challenging the idea of the 'American
Dream' which is largely a consumerist dream, and I talk about the misguided masses in American (and Western) society.
You invest very much in skilled work, especially on the guitar. Comment, please!
Thanks! My brother and I have been playing a long time together, about 17 years now, so when we get together, I am often very pleased with the result.
How would you describe your music and what are your musical influences in your opinion?
I describe it as 'classic heavy rock'. The main influences include Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, Pagan Altar, and Wishbone Ash among others.
At the end of your career: Which statement would you like to read about your band in the great history book of Heavy Metal?
'A band that stayed true to its influences and never caved into trends while maintaining a positive message'
What makes the difference between Valkyrie and other Doom or Old school Metal bands?
Mainly the fact that we try our best not to play one riff too long, we try to keep it fairly upbeat and uplifting, with our music and our lyrics. We choose not to focus on the negative elements of life.
How important is it for you to play live on stage?
The live show is important because we are able to connect with our audience. This connection can be a lasting one and we are able to breathe more life into songs that often seem much less exciting in the studio.
Please tell us something about further Live activities.
We are taking off in a week on a two week tour through the northeast US with our friends EARTHRIDE from Maryland. Other than that, we are mainly focused on writing right now and a little less on live shows.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Germany. Best wishes to you all. Any finishing words?
Thanks for taking the time to interview us!! Hope to see in Germany one day as well!!
