Hello Martin! Thanx for your time. How do you feel now that the new album is finished and ready to be released?
I feel great! After lost of hard work sweat and tears I can finally hold the new cd in my hands and feel pleased.
I must say, that “Generation Wild” is even closer to “Rest in Sleaze”, than to the last album “The Unattractive Revolution”. What do you think about this?
Yes I agree, that was our plan from the beginning of the working process on this album.
CRASHDIET changed the singer again – what can you tell us about Simon Cruz? How did he get in contact with the band?
We´ve known about him for quite some time.. even before we met Olliver. Simon was busy with another band back then, but he eventually called me up when he heared about Olli had gotten kicked out of the band. It was our destiny man.
On “Generation Wild”, there are those great and catchy melodies again, that became a trademark of CRASHDIET. What can you say about the process of songwriting? As the lead guitarist, is it up to you to create songs?
I´m the one most used to writing songs, but on this album I c/o wrote most songs with Simon apart from the 2 songs Eric wrote (“Dust” and “Bound”) Simon does his own lyrics and has a very melodic voice, so naturally the album is more melodic than the last one.
For me, it`s hard to find a favourite track on the album, because everyone is a killer. Please tell us about your favourite song and some associations, that com to you while playing it.
Right now my favorite is Native Nature. It is sucha ballsy song and its fucking cool to perform it live!
This typical Sleaze-Metal-Style is very similar to the US 80s bands like Skid Row or Firehouse. Please tell us in which way CRASHDIET is inspired by the bands of this era and where you see the differences?
We always loved bands like Ratt, Guns N roses, Kiss, w.a.s.p. Cinderella etc but we also like great song-writing so there´s a little of everything in out inspiration... I listen to a lot of 60s & 70s bands like the Doors, Rolling stones, Aerosmith but also heavier stuff like Sepultura, Korn and yeah Lady Gaga ;)
I guess mainly the song writing and arrangements are more modern if you compare it to the 80s.. The production is of course up to date too.
Currently CRASHDIET is on tour through Europe – please tell us about the fans`s resonance to the new songs.
The new songs are very popular live already. We play 6 out of 10 songs on the new album currently.
